Liturgy reflective of 2 Kings 4: 8-37
CALL TO WORSHIP
LEADER: We come with eyes open for promise and possibility.
PEOPLE: Let us worship the God of creation and creativity.
LEADER: We come with hearts open to see you working through your humble servants, O God.
PEOPLE: Let us worship the God of power using the weakness of His people.
LEADER: We come with minds open to what might be hidden in the ordinary.
PEOPLE: Let us Worship the God of hidden mystery. Come, let us worship the Lord.
INVOCATION
Holy God, we thank you for calling us home to this place that we might come to give you thanks and praise. Help us to be mindful of the privilege it is to come to your throne just as we are and bring the fullness of our gratitude and our need into your gentle care. We pray it in the name of the one who taught us, saying…
PRAYER OF INTERCESSION
In the fashion of the Shunammite woman, we pray with boldness for your people, O God…
May all who feel unsafe because of economic, political, or domestic threats be made safe in your loving power. (silence is kept)
May all who feel outside the sphere of loving relationships be restored to wholeness within their families, their communities, and their own spirits. (silence is kept)
May all who feel unworthy approaching your throne begin to unravel the tangles of lies that have convinced them their worth lies in themselves instead of your love. (silence is kept)
May all people face with courage the interdependence that ties us to one another and to you, and may our leaders make choices reflecting the deep need you have given us for one another. (silence is kept)
May we keep our hearts open to the needs of those we meet, and may you answer the deep needs of those we lift before you with your extraordinary power, grace, and love, accomplishing far more than we could ask or imagine. (list names)
All these things we ask in the name of your son and our savior, Jesus Christ,
Amen.
BENEDICTION
May God strengthen and embolden your approach to his throne,
on your own account and on behalf of God’s people everywhere
that you may live lives of purpose
assured that the power of the almighty walks beside you. Amen.
